THE 2016 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

Well, everybody had high expectations of Missy Franklin getting the gold medal only to have her crash to absolute last place.  The woman who got a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England got last place in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Something about the South American setting screwed with Missy Franklin's performance.  You can imagine how frustrated that Missy Franklin worked this hard to make it to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games only to crash and burn way too quickly.  Not a good start for the United States Women's Swimming Team when one of their best swimmers washed out right out of the starting gate.

It was working as part of a team in earning a silver medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle that Simone Manuel, Abbey Weitzeil, Dana Vollmer and Katie Ledecky had much better luck.
It was as the anchor leg for the 4×100-meter freestyle that made Katie Ledecky the United State's sweetheart.  Big things are heading her way.

It was in the 100 meter backstroke that Kathleen Baker also from the United States won the silver medal against Katinka Hosszu of Hungary.
Kathleen Baker enjoyed the silver medal that she earned at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Katinka Hosszu of Hungary was even happier than Kathleen Baker about getting a gold medal in 100 meter backstroke.

Shane Tusup was unable to contain his happiness when his wife Katinka Hosszu, whom he is the athletic coach for, won the gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke.

It was in the in the 400 meter individual medley that Katinka Hosszú of Hungary won another gold medal.  Here we have Maya Dirado of the United States, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary and Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain.
Yulia Efimova of Russia tested positive for performance enhancement steroids, but she was allowed to perform in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro anyway.  She gave a number one symbol after acing the qualifying round.
In a revival of Cold War era politics of the United States of America verses Russia, Lilly King did a rude combative finger waving against the television image of Yulia Efimova of Russia.
Even though Lilly King's qualifying round broke records and was faster in comparison, Yulia Efimova of Russia was still convinced that she'll defeat her most hated United States rival Lilly King.

And so it was time for the 100 meter breaststroke to begin.  Yulia Efimova of Russia dove into the swimming pool water.

Lilly King of the United States defeated Yulia Efimova of Russia and broke a world record in the process.  Yulia Efimova was unable to defeat her hated rival Lilly King as the United States gained the upper hand against Russia.
Katie Meili of the United States and her teammate Lilly King congratulated each other while completely ignoring Yulia Efimova of Russia.

Lilly King made the number one symbol with her finger directly within eyesight of Yulia Efimova of Russia.

Lilly King is enjoying her moment in the sun with her gold medal.

Yulia Efimova of Russia may have gained the silver medal, but she's taking it all in stride.

Katie Meili have have gotten the bronze medal, but she's also taking it all in stride.
