THE HARROW, THE HARVEST AND THE MACHINE

Gillian Welch was born in New York City on October 2, 1967 and given up for adoption immediently.  Her mother was a college student who originated in Western North Carolina before relocating to New York city and her father was rumored to be a vacationing musician who played the drums.  And since both of her biologic parents were only in it for the sex, she was sent to an orphanage and adopted by Ken and Mitzie Welch.  Her adopted parents relocated from New York City to Los Angelas to write for television shows like the Tonight Show and the Carol Burnett Show.  After graduating high school, she played drums in a psychedelic band, bass guitar in a goth band and got a Bachelor Degree in photography from University of California, Santa Cruz.  She later attended and got a Bachelor Degree in Songwriting in Berklee College of Music.  It was while taking classes that she met and fell in love with her symbiotic music industry sidekick David Rawlings.  Despite pressure from music industry insiders (Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss are managed by the same person Denise Stiff), Gillian Welch never abandoned her sidekick David Rawlings and joined a rock band instead.  With David Rawlings as the only band she ever needed, Gillian Welch released her first album in 1996.  Her latest album was released in 2011.  She was a crucial player in every single song on David Rawlings solo album in 2009.
